  • #KinesoOfTheDay: Why Information is Essential?

     #KinesoOfTheDay ¦ IMPORMASYON

Recently, we received a horrifying news with regards to one of my cousins named Engr. Geonard Pontijo Grafil, I.E. That he was rushed to the hospital and he is brain dead and comatose for several hours. We the direct relatives, especially those close to him felt sad upon hearing the news. He is in Batangas (Luzon), while his siblings and parents both living in Mindanao: southern part in the Province of Bukidnon. Due to this pandemic, no one coming from his family will ever get to that place as immediately as possible since it's too far and the mode of transportation is not that easy. The only communication that we relied on is through the social media and his relatives living with him in Batangas. This pandemic affects anyone, no one is exempted; physically, emotionally and financially. Since we are too far from him and we have our own family, jobs and personal lives to attend too yet we still need to lookout for him. We have questions that needs answers. We need information. We heard info's, initially but not that good, we are devastated. Part of us believe it and part of us too questioning the credibility of the information that we received, because there are two different and not coincidentally information. First, he is not in good shape, that we should accept it no matter what happens to him. The other one is that he is fighting back. In our shoes, since we could not see him personally we cannot tell that he is okay. What we only have is the pictures circulating from one clan to another clan. The time when it was taken, who took it and the details behind every photos. I was at the office doing some paperwork and my Mama suddenly called me, she's crying, her voice is cracked and I can feel the pain, AND I CAN TELL WHAT IS GOING ON. Dead air. No one is speaking over the phone. Everyone is crying. Me in myself keep telling myself that there is something wrong. I even asked my mother, who told her the information, she said: "IMONG ATE JING2X" (eldest sister of Geonard) then she continued on talking something about my health, the nature of my work and many more. My cousin is like a son to my mother. We spent our years together since from our very childhood. We shared secrets. We shared under the same pre-Spanish method of discipline. And many more to mention. Every family of PONTEJO/PONTIJO are crying upon hearing the news that HE PASSED AWAY. My cousin really touches everyones heart and lives. He is cheerful, he likes to put smile on every faces, he jokes most of the time, he likes to sing at the top of his lungs and even we closest cousins of him can't read him that easy. He used to be the most energetic, logical-mathematical, jack of all trades and unique. His own family is broken and crying out loud. I can feel the pain. Losing of hopes. Losing him is the ending. We even spread the word to other childhood friends and friends to other friends. We are in the middle of grief, some of us are posting on social media and spreading the word and then we're struck by a news that HE IS ALIVE. We are like fools in the eyes of others. It looks like that we are fooling each other. Some of us gets angry and really mad. Some of us are looking back to the root of our own family history and digging stories around. But we cared now is that he is stable and he is alive. We thank God that he answers our prayers and those people who extended their help through prayers and support. Upon writing this, I personally NOT pointing others or blaming anyone. No one is being blamed or liable here for spreading a false statement. Let us set aside about it and move forward. I write this because I want to raise awareness that we should rely on to information that comes from a reliable source and with credibility. That we should relay information as true and correct without BAWAS OR DAGDAG. DISCLAIMER: This is not a rant.
